Grungy Taper Sconce

I know I haven't been doing much primitive crafting lately. My heart has been in my painting and that's what I'm doing the most right now. But I did have the urge to make a little something while I was in my studio over the weekend, so I thought I'd share it with you today. It's this Grungy Taper Sconce.

Grungy Prim Taper Sconce

I used a rusty tin scoop as the sconce, then tied on some muslin. I added my grungy primitive candle taper in a mini rusty tin bucket to hold it in the center of the sconce. Then I added some pip berries (a candle ring) around the mini bucket, and I finished it with a little primitive crow pick. I just need to add a hole at the back of the sconce so I can hang it up. :)

Mini Crow Dough Ornies

I love Primitive Crows. And I also love things in mini sizes. So what better than to combine primitive crows and make them mini Dough Ornies?!

Mini Crow Dough Ornies

These are made with a silicone mold using my usual Primitive Dough Recipe, but with some powdered black tempera paint mixed in. That's a great way to make colored dough ornies, without having to paint them afterward. :)  Then I went ahead and sealed these in melted paraffin wax too.

Primitive Crow Bird Bath Decor

I was in the mood for some Primitive Crows while I was in the studio over the weekend, and I was also trying to find a creative way to use a mini Terra Cotta pot I had in my studio too. So what I came up with was this mini Primitive Crow Bird Bath Decor.

Primitive Crow Bird Bath Decor

Primitive Crow Bird Bath Decor

In the top photo, you'll see that I stenciled on a little primitive crow into the "bowl" of the bird bath. I actually used acrylic paint for that. Then I just added the pot underneath, along with a candle ring of pip berries, which also has some Rusty Tin stars on it. And I added a little resin crow as a finishing touch.

I just wanted a simple little project that could serve as Primitive Home Decor. This is small enough to be used on a table top, as part of a centerpiece. It could also be used just as decor on a small shelf. You could put a votive in the top too, but if you burned it, the wax might be too much for the small "bowl." So maybe a tealight candle would be better. :)

Linking up to the I Gotta Create link party.

Primitive Crow Scoop Nest

It was a very productive day in the studio yesterday. I got some paintings started and several craft projects done as well. And it was such a gorgeous day--with the sun shining so brightly in the studio windows. Loved it!

One of my weekend creations was the Primitive Crow Scoop Nest.

Primitive Crow Scoop Nest

I used a Rusty Tin scoop that I filled with Pip Berries and Spanish moss to make the nest. I added a Primitive Crow and a few cinnamon sticks to finish it off. Love it!

Primitive Crows Valentines Hangtag

When I was making my Primitive Crows Basket the other day I also decided to make a Primitive Hangtag too, with a Valentines theme...but still with some crows on it. This is what I came up with.

Primitive Crows Hangtag
I still love doing Altered Art once in awhile, so this was fun to do. I started with a grungy hangtag that I stamped with a crackle background. Then I stamped on my Primitive Crows and added the primitive red heart. I finished it off with a red ribbon and a black brad. Simple, but fun, and so prim!

Primitive Crows Basket

I was feeling a bit crafty in my studio over the weekend and did several things. Since I love Primitive Crows, I love finding new ways to create crafts and primitive home decor with crows as the theme. This is one of the things I came up with over the weekend. My Primitive Crows Basket.

Primitive Crows Basket with Pip Berries

The basket is black in color. I added a mixture of pip berries in yellow, burgundy, and green, along with some Spanish moss at the top. I added some primitive crow picks that I've had for ages, along with one that is a yellow primitive star. I added some homespun for a pop of color on the basket. And that burgundy star is from a set of bowl fillers I had lying in my studio, waiting to be used on something. I love how it turned out!

Pumpkin Crow Primitive Hangtag

Wow, it's been awhile since I've done any Primitive Freebies, hasn't it? Well let's just rectify that, shall we?

Pumpkin Crow Primitive Hangtag

Once September arrives, I automatically start thinking Fall...even if Mother Nature is still thinking Summer. LOL So I created this Primitive Hangtag printable that speaks to me of crisp air, Autumn pumpkins, and even Primitive Crows! Just click on the image to make it appear full size, then right-click it and save it to your computer. Hopefully you can use this while you're creating some wonderful primitive crafts for the coming Fall season. Enjoy!

Primitive Flowers in Burlap

Burlap is really all the rage these days, and it's such a great material to work with. It can be used any time you want a primitive, country, or rustic touch somewhere in your home. You can even use it to whip up a quick and easy display of Primitive Flowers and Pip Berries.

You can take a small pot of flowers and prim it up like this, which makes it the perfect Primitive Gift too. Just cut some burlap into a circle (or a square--it doesn't matter much) that's a bit bigger than the size of the pot. You can grungy up the burlap with some coffee stain or even just brown ink, if you like. Use a Primitive Crow stencil and some black stencil cream to stencil on your crow. You can use any kind of stencil design you like--it's up to you. I just like crows!

Once that's dry, put your pot in the center of the burlap and pull up the sides around the pot. Tie it with some jute or some grungy string. Add a primitive or antique-looking key for fun. The just pop in some sprigs of pip berries here and there for a fun prim touch.

Primitive Crow Altered Envelope

I created some Primitive Crow Altered Art Envelopes in the past but I don't think I ever posted them here. I was thinking about doing some of these as gifts for a few friends, so thought I'd share them.

Primitive Crow Altered Envelope

I just took plain brown Kraft envelopes and first stamped them with a text stamp using a golden-colored ink. Then I stamped on my Primitive Crows in black ink. Next I stenciled on my 'Simplify' text, and then I finished them off by gluing on a Rusty Tin star.

I will put some other handmade goodies inside...a hang tag or two, a magnet, and a little card. Whatever I can dream up in the studio!

Primitive Crow Homespun Fabric Hangtag

I was in the mood to do something with fabric yesterday. Then I remembered I had some fabric ATC blanks that I hadn't used yet so thought I'd use one of those to create a Primitive Hangtag.

Primitive Crow Fabric Hangtag

First I grungy'd up the tag using some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist--always a nice, quick way to add a grungy effect. Then I stamped on a Primitive Crow design. I added some homespun across the top portion using some black paper fasteners, and I added one to the crow too to look like an eye. Then I added some extra homespun to the top of the tag and added a little spring of Pip Berries too.

I love the way this turned out. It will be perfect for a primitive gift this holiday season!

Primitive Pumpkin Bucket

Now this was just totally for fun, because I was determined to find another way to use my putka pods AND create another Primitive Fall project. The result is my little Primitive Pumpkin Bucket, accented with the cutest of Primitive Crows.
Pumpkin Bucket
I started with a plain mini black bucket, approximately 2" or so in diameter at the top. I added some fiberfill to the bottom and covered that with a piece of cardboard that I cut to fit very snug inside the bucket, just below the ridges on the bucket. I shoved in the cardboard and the ridges basically hold it in place. I did this because I knew I'd be hot gluing the putka pod "pumpkins" in, and I didn't want to have to do more than necessary. Those little suckers are small, and that takes a lot of time! So the fiberfill and cardboard barrier gave me a way to use less putkas.

Next I took my primitive crow pick that I bought at Blossom Bucket (probably 3 or 4 years ago!) and cut the wire to the length I needed, so that the crow would sit a bit above the top of the bucket. I poked it through the cardboard and fiberfill where I wanted it to be. Then I started hot gluing in putka pods, one at a time. I just kept going until I created a nice little mound, and made it look like the crow was perched on the pumpkins.

To finish it off I just shoved in some Spanish moss here and there, to make it look like hay or something dried. And I tied a piece of jute around the bucket to help offset the black of the bucket and give it a bit of a rustic touch. I just love how this turned out.

Primitive Crow and Flowers Tag

I'm still in the mood for a Primitive Fall, so today I made another Primitive Hangtag for everyone (like me!) who loves Primitive Crows and Fall. It's my Primitive Crow and Flowers Tag. Click on the image once to open it to full size, then right-click and save it to your computer.
I hope you like the hangtag!

Primitive Crow and Stars Tag

I thought it was about time to create and give away some new Primitive Freebies here on Tattered Sisters. And since I love Primitive Crows, I used that for my inspiration. So I've created a Primitive Crow and Stars Tag in two sizes and they are available for free download! Here's a sample of it.

Primitive Crow and Stars Tag

Don't download that tag though, because it has my watermark on it. Use the links below to view and download each of the free tags.

I hope you enjoy these free Primitive Hangtags!

Primitive Crow Mason Jar

I just love using Mason Jars in crafting. So if I can find something new to do with one, then I do it. My latest creation combines my love of Mason Jars with my love of Primitive Crows. It's a Primitive Crow Mason Jar.

Primitive Crow Mason Jar

To make this I started with a simple square Mason Jar. I shredded up some tissue paper that has a vintage newsprint pattern on it and I put that in the bottom of the jar. Next I added a few stems of Pip Berries and a handful of berry-like bowl fillers I had on hand. Then I added a primitive crow; it's one I bought a few years ago at a craft store somewhere in the fall. I added a zinc lid to the jar that I topped with a homespun ribbon, and I finished it off with a wooden button.

So now this cute little jar is new Primitive Home Decor that has found a home in my kitchen. :)

Primitive Crow Box

I had one Raggedy Flower left after adding a couple of my Primitive Finds to my dining room table dough bowl. So I decided to put it to good use and create this quick little Primitive Crow Box and fill it with a few primitive goodies.

Primitive Crow Box

I love Primitive Crows, so it's always fun to use them around the house. I added one that I made last spring to the box. I also added a spray of Pip Berries, the grungy Raggedy Flower, and also a little sugar cone style wax melt that is wrapped in burlap. It was just something quick and simple to do, but it adds a nice little primitive touch to my hutch. And I love it when Primitive Home Decor is just a gathering of things you already have on hand.

Primitive Crow Fixins Hangtag

I haven't been able to get into my studio much in the last month. But I made it in yesterday for a couple of hours and decided to do some Altered Art. This Primitive Crow Fixins Hangtag was one of my creations.

Primitive Crow Fixins Hangtag
I started with a tag that already had the polka dot pattern and a bit of "greenery" imagery on the bottom. I just liked the look of that pattern. Then I took some Tim Holtz Distress Ink and distressed all the edges, and even very lightly over the top of the tag. Next, I took a stencil I have that spells out Fixins and I used the same Distress Ink to stencil on that word. Then I stamped on my primitive crow image, and I added a paper image of some leaves and a twig, so it would look like the crow is sitting on it. I also used some paper edge scissors to add a decorative edge to the bottom of the tag. And I finished it off with a jute tie.

Now wouldn't this look cute on a Grungy Prim Fixins Bag or some other Fixins gift?

Primitive Crow n Shamrock Hanger

I've got something to crow about for sure today...it's my Primitive Crow n Shamrock Hanger that I just finished, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!

I made the crow itself out of felt. I really like the look and feel of felt in craft projects, so I'm always happy to use it in something new. I drew a crow shape on cardstock to create a pattern, then traced that twice on the felt and then cut them out. Then I also drew a wing shape and cut out four of those. For the raggedy shamrock I used some green and cream ticking fabric--I drew the shamrock and then cut out two of those.

I used black embroidery thread to stitch the wings together first, using a top stitch. I left about a 1" opening to  stuff with fiberfill, then stitched each wing closed. Then I attached each wing to one side of the crow's body. Next I stitched the crow together, again using black embroidery thread and a simple top stitch, and leaving a couple of inches open for stuffing. Once the crow was sewn together I added some  green primitive star buttons for eyes. And then I used some yellow acrylic paint to paint his beak. I just thought the all black beak was too much and I wanted a pop of color.

Then I stitched most of the raggedy shamrock together on my sewing machine, leaving a small opening for stuffing, then sewed it closed. I trimmed off the excess fabric and rubbed the fabric a bit to get it to be more raggedy-looking. Then I finished it off by attaching the raggedy shamrock to the crow with black embroidery thread, and I attached another piece of the thread to the crow's body so I can hang it up.

I don't do tons of sewing craft projects because I'm just not that good at it. But I do love how my primitive crow turned out. And he'll be perfect hanging in my kitchen.

Primitive Crows Link Party

I love joining link parties and blog hops and I've been doing it for awhile on my Art Chick Studio blog. Just started doing it here with Tattered Sisters too. But I decidedly recently that I would love to start hosting some of my own link parties right here on this blog. So I bit the bullet and signed up for InLinkz and now it's time to get the party started!

Tattered Sisters Tuesday

This will be the first official Tattered Sisters Tuesday Challenge link party. These challenges will be either weekly, or biweekly, just haven't decided yet, and will always be posted on Tuesday. The theme for our first party is going to be Primitive Crows. And here are the rules for participating in the link party.
  1. You must link back to the link party, either with an image link or text link in your actual blog post, or on the sidebar of your blog. You can snag the image posted above, if you like.
  2. You must link directly to the post that your project resides in, not to your main blog page. We want your project to be easy to find, so please link directly to it.
  3. Your project must be handmade, by you.
  4. Do not post links to online stores, products for sale on your blog, Ebay stores, or Etsy shoppes. Sorry, this isn't for getting free advertising for your business...this is for the sharing of handmade primitives with other prim sisters!
  5. It probably goes without saying, but all projects should be family friendly.
  6. Your project can be old (archived) or new (a recent post), as long as it has the appropriate theme.
  7. Please visit at least 2 of the other blogs in the party and leave a nice comment for them. After all, that's kind of the point of the party. :o)
Would love it if you would follow Tattered Sisters as well, but I won't make that a requirement. I will feature one of the party entries next week in its own blog post, with a link back to the crafter's blog.  By joining the party you are giving your permission for me to use your product photo in a featured spot on Tattered Sisters, as applicable. Joining the party takes only a few simple steps. And you can read all of the step-by-step instructions, and the link party rules (sorry, gotta have some rules) for entering on our Tuesday Link Party page.
Please join the party, and please spread the word about the Tattered Sisters Tuesday Challenge! It's a great way to get some traffic to your blog, and also a great way to find blogs of other talented primitive crafters!

      Primitive Crows in a Can

I love primitive crows, and I also love wax melts. I also love giving wax melts as gifts. So here's a way you can give some primitive crow wax melts as gifts. Give them Primitive Crows in a Can!

      Primitive Crows in a Can
I used a rusty tin paint can that I already had in my studio for this. It wasn't an actual paint can that got rusty though. ;) I bought it somewhere online and just thought it was so cute. I added a burgundy gingham homespun strip around the middle of the can and topped that with a rusty tin star. Let's face it, don't lots of things look more prim with a rusty tin star on them? Then I just added some scented wax melts that look like primitive crows inside the can.

Super easy, and super cute. Any primitive crow lover would surely love these!

      Grungy Crow Bag

I was in a grungy mood over the weekend and decided to do something with crows too. The result is my Grungy Crow Bag.

      Grungy Crow Bag
I started with a grungy muslin bag, which I have on hand most of the time since I love working with grungy bags. But if you need the recipe for making things grungy, you can find it in my Grungy Hang Tag Tutorial. Next I stamped on a crow image and the word CROW using black ink. To the grungy bag I added some stems of burgundy pip berries, some 6" cinnamon sticks, and some drieds (Spanish Moss). I also found a resin black crow craft pick in my studio, so I added that too, and I added a primitive rusty tin star as an accent too. I finished this off with a burgundy homespun tie, and I created a matching grungy crow hang tag as well.
