Vintage Girl Kraft ATC

I created this ATC awhile ago but I don't think I ever shared it here. So considering how lax I've been in posting these days I just thought I'd share this now.

You know I love Vintage Photos, so when I can use them in an art or craft project, I'm thrilled to. And I love the photo of this lovely young lady. I grungy'd up a Kraft ATC blank and then added the photo and embellishments. There's even some black ribbon woven through the card on each side of the flower. Once I'd finished with that it seemed done to me. :) I don't create that many ATC's anymore. I really should start to do more again.

Primitive Sheep Grungy Tag

I felt like making a Primitive Hangtag over the weekend, and since I didn't have time to do much crafting after a full day of painting in my studio, this was the perfect solution to a quick prim craft project.

Just a simple grungy'd up hang tag that I stamped with a cute Primitive Sheep stamp, and then I embellished it just a bit around the edges with a black pen. Cute and prim, and super easy!

Twinkle Twinkle Primitive Card

After finding some great Primitive Rubber Stamps, which I blogged to you about last month, I finally got a chance to get back into my studio and put some of them to use. Although I used stamps that I found a few days after my other stamp purchase when I did this project. This was my first creation with some of the new stamps. It's a grungy Kraft card, which I turned into some Altered Art, primitive style.

I created this using three different clear acrylic stamps. The Mason Jar is one, the Stars are another, and the text sentiment is the other. The Mason Jar stamp is small (this is a 4x6 card) and is by Dear Izzy. I don't remember where I purchased that one, but it comes with a few even smaller stamps that have text and so forth. The Stars and the text sentiment came together I got them from the Unity Stamp Company.

I stamped the stars first, then stamped the Mason Jar, and then the text. And to add the yellow to the stars I used a little watered down Tim Holtz Distress Paint. The grungy edges were created with a Walnut Stain Distress Ink, also by Tim Holtz. I decided it would be neat to use the stars to create a matching envelope as well. More stamped projects to come soon!

Primitive Crows Valentines Hangtag

When I was making my Primitive Crows Basket the other day I also decided to make a Primitive Hangtag too, with a Valentines theme...but still with some crows on it. This is what I came up with.

I still love doing Altered Art once in awhile, so this was fun to do. I started with a grungy hangtag that I stamped with a crackle background. Then I stamped on my Primitive Crows and added the primitive red heart. I finished it off with a red ribbon and a black brad. Simple, but fun, and so prim!

Love Heart Altered Art

Now that the holidays are over I thought I'd start thinking about Valentine's Day. It will be here before you know it! So I thought I'd share this Love Heart Altered Art.

I made some of these a couple of years ago for my other blog, but wanted to do a new one because I love how they turned out the first time. The heart is wood, and I've added a black and white patterned scrapbook paper to the top of it. There's a vintage photo, a button, and some ribbon too. If you drill some small holes in the top of the heart, you can add some ribbon so that you can hang this up. It would be cute on a small Valentine tree, or even hanging on something else. Great as a gift too! Granted, it's more Shabby Prim than primitive, but you could do lots of things to make this much more primitive.

Grungy Primitive Christmas Believe Card

I felt like creating some Altered Art the other day, so I came up with this Grungy Primitive Christmas Believe Card.

I used a Vintage Photo of Santa, added to a brown Kraft card that I made good and grungy using distress ink (by Tim Holtz). I also used a text rubber stamp on top of the card. I added a 'Believe' word sticker, an old button, and a touch of ribbon for a pop of color. Just a cute little primitive Christmas card, ready for giving.

Primitive Crow Altered Envelope

I created some Primitive Crow Altered Art Envelopes in the past but I don't think I ever posted them here. I was thinking about doing some of these as gifts for a few friends, so thought I'd share them.

 I just took plain brown Kraft envelopes and first stamped them with a text stamp using a golden-colored ink. Then I stamped on my Primitive Crows in black ink. Next I stenciled on my 'Simplify' text, and then I finished them off by gluing on a Rusty Tin star.

I will put some other handmade goodies inside...a hang tag or two, a magnet, and a little card. Whatever I can dream up in the studio!

Primitive Crow Homespun Fabric Hangtag

I was in the mood to do something with fabric yesterday. Then I remembered I had some fabric ATC blanks that I hadn't used yet so thought I'd use one of those to create a Primitive Hangtag.

First I grungy'd up the tag using some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist--always a nice, quick way to add a grungy effect. Then I stamped on a Primitive Crow design. I added some homespun across the top portion using some black paper fasteners, and I added one to the crow too to look like an eye. Then I added some extra homespun to the top of the tag and added a little spring of Pip Berries too.

I love the way this turned out. It will be perfect for a primitive gift this holiday season!

Primitive Sheep Altered Hangtag

While I was out in my studio yesterday I got the urge to draw a simple little Primitive Sheep! So I decided I'd do that and create an Altered Art Primitive Hangtag.

I always have grungy hangtags in my studio as part of my regular supply of Grungy Goods that I use for crafting. So I started with the grungy hangtag and just drew on my primitive sheep, and I outlined it all in black permanent marker. Then I used some brown stamping ink all the way around the edges of the tag to distress it a bit more. And I just finished it off by stamping on the letters B-A-A in black ink. Now it's all finished and ready to be attached to a gift.

More Primitive Hangtag Magnets

I explained how to make these in my Caring Primitive Hangtag Magnet post, but thought I'd post a couple more Primitive Magnets for you, in case you need some more inspiration.

I used the same basic process on these as on the Caring magnet. Although on the magnet with the woman, I also added a small photo of a butterfly as an embellishment. These are really fun to make and so easy to make too. I hope you try them!

Caring Primitive Hangtag Magnet

It's always fun to see how many ways you can use grungy'd up Primitive Hangtags. I use mine a lot for tags on gifts, naturally. But why not use them as the gifts themselves? One thing you can do is make Primitive Magnets out of them. Here's one example, my Caring Primitive Hangtag Magnet.

You start with a grungy hangtag, approximately 1-1/2" by 3-1/2" in size. Then, using whatever vintage or primitive rubber stamp image that you like, stamp on top of the grungy hangtag. This one features a vintage image of a woman. I embellished her a bit by adding some brown ink lightly over her face, and adding a rhinestone gem to be her earring. Then I just created a distressed-looking word embellishment for "caring." Once the image is how you want it, just adhere it to a business card-sized craft magnet. Then use a craft knife to cut away the excess magnet, and finish it off by using a hole punch to punch a hole through the magnet at the top of the tag. Voila! Primitive Hangtag Magnet, and it's perfect as a gift all by itself. 

You could do this with rubber stamp images, word art, sayings, primitive graphics--really, the possibilities are as limitless as the imagination.

Bottlecap Primitive Magnets

I've been doing Altered Art for awhile now and I post it a lot on my art blog. I have posted these Bottlecap Primitive Magnets there, but thought this was primitive enough to post here too, because much of Altered Art can also be considered primitive.

All you need to make these are some craft bottlecaps, some vintage photos, circle-shaped craft magnets, UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamale), a circle punch, and a heat gun or craft melting plate. Using a circle punch that cuts circles to the size you need, you punch out your desired vintage photos. You could also use your favorite primitive graphics. Place the image in the bottle cap and sprinkle with enough UTEE to fill up the bottlecap a little more than half way. Then either set them on your melting plate or CAREFULLY use a heat gun (at a fair distance, so as not to blow the UTEE granules all over the place!) to melt the UTEE until it's completely melted. Then you just let it cool and then hot glue your craft magnet on the back of the bottlecap. Super easy! 

You can find most or all of these supplies at your favorite craft store, on Etsy, or just by Googling the supplies online. And the bottlecaps come in lots of sizes and colors anymore, so you could make all sorts of neat magnets with them. Many people make jewelry with these too!

Primitive Crow Fixins Hangtag

I haven't been able to get into my studio much in the last month. But I made it in yesterday for a couple of hours and decided to do some Altered Art. This Primitive Crow Fixins Hangtag was one of my creations.

I started with a tag that already had the polka dot pattern and a bit of "greenery" imagery on the bottom. I just liked the look of that pattern. Then I took some Tim Holtz Distress Ink and distressed all the edges, and even very lightly over the top of the tag. Next, I took a stencil I have that spells out Fixins and I used the same Distress Ink to stencil on that word. Then I stamped on my primitive crow image, and I added a paper image of some leaves and a twig, so it would look like the crow is sitting on it. I also used some paper edge scissors to add a decorative edge to the bottom of the tag. And I finished it off with a jute tie. 

Now wouldn't this look cute on a Grungy Prim Fixins Bag or some other Fixins gift?

Prim Vintage Clothespin Magnets

While in my studio last weekend I had been playing around with some vintage clothespins that I had in my laundry room. I ended up making some shabby chic style magnets out of them first, but then I decided I need to do some more primitive versions of the magnets. So I created these Prim Vintage Clothespin Magnets, which really also could be Primitive Bowl Fillers instead. You could really consider these Altered Art too, since they are vintage clothespins that I altered.

Primitive Star Clothespin Magnet

For the Primitive Button Clothespin Magnet, I started by wrapping it with a strip of distressed muslin. Then I wrapped it with a smaller strip of burgundy gingham homespun fabric, and topped it with a cream-colored button.

For the Primitive Star Clothespin Magnet, I started by wrapping it with a strip of burlap. The I wrapped it with a smaller strip of mustard-colored plaid homespun, and topped it with a rusty tin star.

Then I just added a small craft magnet to the back of each clothespin to make them into primitive magnets, which again, could easily be left off if you wanted to just uses these as primitive bowl fillers instead. I am kind of a homemade magnet addict though, so these are going on my refrigerator. :o)

Time Flies Primitive Hangtag

I usually post my altered art projects over at my Art Chick Studio blog. But since this one has such a primitive feel to it, I thought I'd post it here at Tattered Sisters instead. It's my Time Flies Primitive Hangtag. I'm using this as an entry into the 3 Muses Time Challenge.

This hangtag is really two hangtags in one. The larger one is a 7 Gypsies tag that already comes with a background pattern/design on it. The only altering I did to it was to distress the edges with Distress Ink, and scallop the bottom with some paper edgers.

Then I created the smaller hangtag, beginning with a grungy hangtag I already had on hand. I stamped on a clock image, and I added a copper brad to serve as the hands of the clock.  I also added two different scalloped pieces of scrapbook paper to the bottom of the tag, distressing both with some ink. Then I added a vintage photo of a littler girl fairy, perched upon a little bird.She looks ready to fly, just like time.

For embellishments I added more copper brads; one to the girl's dress, to look like a button, one to the top of the hangtag, and two to the bottom corners of the smaller hangtag, which are actually holding it in place on the larger tag. Next came the brown and cream alpha stickers, spelling out Time Flies, and the last touch was a yellow rhinestone gem on the butterfly image on the larger tag.

 So this hangtag is really one part primitive, one part altered art, and one part grungy goods! And all together, I kind of like it.
